Washington Head Coach Takes Responsibility for Leaving Daniels in Game Before Significant Injury

The Commanders head coach Coach Quinn has stated he bears a portion of the blame for a major injury to the team’s signal-caller, Jayden Daniels.

Details of the Injury and Context

Daniels, who had one of the greatest rookie campaigns in history the previous year, sustained a displaced elbow joint in Sunday’s defeat to the Seattle Seahawks. Although the quarterback throws with his right arm, the injury has left his campaign uncertain. The injury was serious enough that the TV coverage avoided showing replays and multiple players turned away as Daniels was attended to by medical staff.

Backlash and Coach’s Response

Coach Quinn faced criticism as many felt Daniels should not have been on the playing surface to begin with. The incident occurred in the final period with the Washington behind 38-7, rendering a comeback improbable. It is common in these situations for teams to insert their backup quarterback to prevent injuries to their first-string player.

“I get that. I’ve been thinking about it constantly, too, and, wow, I missed it,” Quinn remarked of his decision to leave Jayden in the game. “That is 100% my fault.”

Aftermath and Squad Outlook

Mariota will be the team’s starting quarterback from now on, but he will guide a team in disarray. After making the NFC championship game the prior year behind the rookie’s excellence, the franchise have struggled currently. They also lost defensive back Marshon Lattimore (torn ACL) and pass-catcher McCaffrey (broken collarbone) on Sunday, and have a number of other key players on the injury list. The Washington squad are three wins and six losses on the season, and it would require a huge reversal for the club to make the postseason.
